HOPE CONNECTS TO DESTINY
In 2019, my mother was constantly having stomach pain, at first we took it that, it was due to heatiness in the body that she underwent such symptoms. However, I received a call early in the morning, that my mother was admitted at BM hospital for a stomachache and further checks are being done. I quickly rushed out and made my way out.
She was then lying in pain unable to pass motion nor pass gas for a couple of days and she was getting even more worried that not much has been done. I visited her everyday but there weren't any forthcoming updates on her health.
Then one day, mother told me I met a Dr, he was surrounded with other Drs, I think he must be a senior doctor,as all other doctors listened to him attentively. "He came towards me and went through my reports" said mother and that she pleaded her case to him as she has not a clue what is going on with her Beside that she was also worried for her daughter who is alone. Mother told me that his name was Dr.Naga.
The doctor quickly instructed his fellow doctors for further action and expedited the case. She was then sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for further checks. When I visited mother, she was then transferred to SJGH.l quickly collected her belongings and rushed to the hospital. It was then during the wake of COVID-19, restrictions were imposed. Visiting hours were also affected. I remember I stood out there crying for my mother as I was not allowed to meet her. I think my mother told Dr Naga that I'm keen to know on my mother's health. He then told mother, tell your daughter to meet me. That was how I got into the ward to see my mother, what a relief I thought to myself!
First Encounter with Dr Naga
I first remembered Dr Naga looking traditionally polished in elastic strap or suspenders. His iconic beard reminded me of the wizard Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. He was clad in his long greyed bushy beard, neatly brushed. He asked me a series of questions, thankfulky I did some reading prior to the meet on laparotomy. He then explained further and provided a succinct picture on her medical condition that mother needs to undergo a surgery to correct her intestines. I was also worried about who would be conducting the surgery and insisted that he personally do it for my mother. My recollection of Dr Naga, was he is a man of principles, demanding under tough conditions and expects his trainee doctors to be on their toes, or else files will be flying and lavitating on the ground.
Mother then proceeded for her surgery at Kepala Batas Hospital and the doctors there attended to her, and thankfully she recovered progressively. I thank all doctors and nurses, assistants from these three hospitals, who assisted my mother in every possible way they could. I'm forever grateful to God for his goodness for allowing me to meet this special person, now I can always call and run to him anytime, as he is my dad!
Encounter at the Gym
One day in 2021, I walked into the gym as I thought it would be convenient to hit the gym since it is close to my house. I then registered and started with very light exercises after almost two years of inactivity. I noticed a man, I thought to myself, I think I know him, he saved my mother. I need to thank him. As I did not have the opportunity to thank him after my mother's surgery. However, I walked towards him and asked if he was Dr Naga. He gladly said yes!
We instantaneously connected and we spoke of so many interesting topics and issues at different levels, that was mind nourishing. He is soulfully fun, positive as well as spiritual, this meet was the beginning to many other wonderful moments reenacting families especially aunty, four legged sisters, brothers and sisters in law, relationships, celebrations, journeying adventures, problems and tensions, highs and lows of life together. It all happened because of this one man, I now call as my dad.
You are indeed a humanist. Many have spoken of your great deeds especially.... Your down to earth behaviour with your patients ... .which many many Doctors don't have that trait. May you be blessed always
