On Duty Dilemma Of Specialists
Why 8/7 so desperate with even 10 surgeons. I am perplexed around 9 surgeons.
Not one can do!
That an old n going to retire surgeon ,still must come to help. It is not ,I don't want to do call ,I am a bit taken back ,there is,around 9 excluding me n can't do.
If you had told me ,Mr Naga ,you are going to retire.I give you a chance to do active call. I would have agreed the 1st time itself.
I was surprised n just thought after I retired. How will the department will run and their cooperation will be.In spite from one surgeon hospital, I have increased to 10 surgeon hospital.
It is not inconvenience. But I came to picture of the work understanding in future without me.
Also made me reminiscent of my past experience from the current situation.Of course, as a head of department.I absorb the impact by sacrificing my comfort many a times if this kind of situation comes and if I find all are genuinely committed.
I remember every time this kind of situation happened 15 years back, I absorb the call most of the time.
Once without asking my help to call, they put my senior on call.
When I came to know, I took over the call from him telling you are too old to do active call I am really sorry I didn't know it earlier.
There was once festival time.
The two younger surgeons can't take the calls n I suppose to do it, but I had a mountain climb trip.My senior took the calls n did the call ,saying it is okay as it will be part of the surgeon's life( he will tackle his wife displeasure π)
Out of four surgeons, two surgeons were calculative. But me and the senior surgeon were adjustable for the duty n camaraderie sakeππΌ♂️
That was joy of working and serving the patients at that time though very few surgeons. But now with even increase in number of specialists ,there is no give and take.
πππππππππππππ
Totally get you on this π
Think I see this as a phenomena of the new generation, they are definitely more aware of their rights and expect their dues. I will even venture to say it is seen throughout every specialty and even every category of staff.
In my early days working in the department, had much less staff but enjoyed working because we were like family and can count on one another to get everything done in the time we had, everyone will cover for one another and look out for each other.
In busy times we will help out colleagues without expecting favour to be returned. Even if we are sick will not simply take mc but continue working if not enough hands around.
We had very good relationships then. Though physically tiring we were mentally happy and proud of our work.
Sadly this is slowly disappearing and will become a phenomena of the past that new generation cannot understand and may never experience it.
1000000% true... nowadays people are selfish.
