A Student's Perception Of The Teacher
Never be gone in my memory,
I was impressed and inspired by a senior consultant surgeon,
when he did the ward visit,
Standing close side by side to the ill and sick old man,
Gave the warmest smile in a hustle morning,
Meanwhile staff nurses and medical officers was rushing up and down finding folders reading out the case reports,
He pat on the old man shoulders,
Good morning mister ong, he greeted
Calling up a person name when you talk is a very important,
Because it shows how attentive you are,
How are you today? He asked while MO and HO were busy flipping the folders.
The old man mr ong smile and reply i am good doctor,
Despite the pain the patient had from the laparotomy stitches,
It lapsed when a doctor shows empathy and kindness.
Before i became his disciple,
I was told that this legendary senior doctor was a grouchy and crabby old man,
In contrast, it didn’t turn down my drive to learn from him,
I learnt and I applied what i assimilated from his teaching,
And till latter day in the GP setting,
I am caress and embosom by the local community, patients and their relatives,
Thanks to my tutor of life Mr Naga,
Knowledge and skills can be owned through hardship,
But attitudes are to be nurtured by someone who will leads you into the correct path.
