Young doctors want work-life balance but older doctors say that's not the job
I agree with the young drs expectation and demand.
We from babyboomers generation of medical practitioners are considered ignorant drs if seen at current alpha and Z generations.
During babyboomer generation, healthcare was a service with compassion as the world n our nation was coming out of silent generation.
We can't apply the same work expectation from current generation alpha or before generation Z.
Where to them, comfort and service is atmost important or work life balance and quality of living is their priority which is a valid expectation from them, with the advancement and progress of the world and the nation at current times.
We must remember during babyboomer time, dr centred treatment(fatherly act) n current times patient centred treatment( patient decision maker)
Besides, current drs, don't get the same respect as babyboomer drs practising period.
During babyboomer time the medical profession was a noble job ,current time it is a common job.
As such I opine we need to understand the above reality and change the mindsets of sr drs to accommodate the dilemma the younger drs facing rather than comparing our nature of work with their expectation of worklife balance.
agree with the statement. nice word Mr. Naga π§
ReplyDeleteDato, this new generation is very difficult
ReplyDeleteSenior Dr: Why didn’t you finish the round?
ReplyDeleteJunior Dr: Silent
Senior Dr: What time did you get to the hospital?
Junior Dr: 8 am.
Senior Dr: What?! You know, I used to come to the hospital at 5 am! Why can’t you?
Junior Dr: Are you going to pay me, Dr, if I come early?
Senior Dr: No! The government is paying you.
Junior Dr: Exactly. I’m working for the government and they expect me to work from 8 am to 5 pm. That’s why I came at 8 am… Why did you come late, Dr? Aren’t you working for the government too?
Senior Dr: That’s none of your business! You should come early so you can learn to present cases and get to know your patients better.
Junior Dr: Why can’t you come at 8 am? Then we could do rounds together. You’re also a government employee.
Senior Dr: Get out!
Junior Dr: I’ll be filing a report against you on SISPAA for workplace bullying and creating a toxic work environment!
Senior Dr: π€π‘π₯΅π€¬
True boss. Times are changing and circumstances change. More doctors and more sub specialisation.
DeleteAdvancement in medical information and technologies are growing at a rapid pace.
Patient load and expectations also differ. More knowledgable and demanding. Dr experiences are also diluted with less hands on and patients encounters.
Drs need a support system and work in a team to take care of themselves and balance work and life expectations. Demanding work-life balance is reasonable but a system has to be in place to ensure continuous patient care. We create a system for our pts and also for ourselves because one day we may be the patient and we want a reliable and safe system. A balance between dr needs and pts needs to ensure a win win situation for everyone. ππ♂️πΉ
