Flag Raising Fiasco
Today, as I took my car out to get lunch, I was overcomed by a sad feeling in regards to this years merdeka in our beloved country.
For past years of my life, I have watched with excitement of my neighbours hanging our Malaysian flag with pride and joy celebrating the national day in unison.
In the past, when I drove on the road,I used to notice many cars with flags of various sizes with no fear of enforcement or if others would find fault in them for hanging the flags.
However, with independence day around the corner, I can't see any flags flying in my neighbourhood or on the road as it used to be.
It was more devastating to notice my neighbour who used to hang the flag a month ahead with full pride, respect, and veneration from the time I've known him hasn't done it till now. Instead, a form of fear has developed in him, and I assume many more are fearful of getting trapped by the self-claim moral police/enforcement personnel.
As I stopped by my favourite chicken rice shop to buy a meal. There was a very narrow space in between two other cars that crossed over into my single parking space. However,
I was still able to park my car and easily exit. In fact, I double-checked if the other drivers on both side can enter into their car before I left.
As I was waiting for my order, I noticed an angry man mishandling my car's side mirror and worse still, after entering his car, he hit my car with his driver side door.
I was very upset with his behaviour, but I thought he must be in misery with so much anger and temper who is hurting himself and creating a negative energy to the surrounding ambience.
Other bystanders around were nodding their head with disappointment and dejection.
That moment made me reflect on the current flag issues, which was harbouring this year.
We are innocent citizens living in peace and harmony in this beautiful country, which we call our home.
We expect our leaders to support and encourage us to be proud of our Independence Day, which we scream with pride Merdeka,Merdeka,Merdeka. We carry and wave the flag proudly to express our love for the nation.
However, some leaders similar to the bully above have created fear and sadness in many Malaysians regarding the idea of hanging the Malaysian flags.
My wish as a senior citizen who toiled as a government servant to heal the ill till being healthy and able to return back to work to serve with love and compassion. I hope that our politicians and community leaders will be encouraging and supporting the citizens to carry the flag proudly in mind, heart, and physically without fear and worries as a Malaysian.
MERDEKA!
Very true! I also met with a burger stall owner who had the flag folded up and placed under the table and when I asked why he did not raise the flag and his reply was he does not want trouble and the risk of having to close down his business. What a pathetic situation the politicians has created. Sad
