1st day of EBC circuit
We had to start our day early at 3am from my Goddaughter Puspa 's house with early breakfast and the ritual prayer of traveling in Nepali way as they are very deeply rooted in culture and tradition.
We are at the airport by 6am and we boarded the small and short duration flight to Lukla at 7.45am
The porter joined us there which was arranged by guide friend Birendra.
The flight journey was interesting as I was sitting near to the pilot and watching how meticulously the fly the plane with so many panels and buttons.
It was a clear sky,so able to see the various range of mountainous region from dense forest to brown to black to white mountain.
The landing of plane by the pilot at world's shortest runaway surrounded by massive mountains is mesmerising.
We started our trekking once the porter joined us.
Lukla(2,800m) and Trek to Zamphuti(2,600m).
It was more of descending trekking for acclimatisation.
It was good trek made large stones which man made and laterite path with magnificent view of green mountains to white mountains due to good bright weather with strong chilling wind at this region.
We had our lunch at Pankdin around 12 noon after walking for 3 hours
Then another 2 and half hrs reached Zamphuti village. Our stop for today.
After tea ,we did acclimatisation hike nearby for an hour.
Back to the rest house (Happy Rest Guest House) for dinner and bed time at 8.30pm.
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
3rd Day Of EBC circuit
Today as it is around 4 to 5 hours of trekking. It is more of warm of hiking ;as to coming days which we going to cross 4000m and face the high altitude environment most importantly thin air, extreme coldness and strong chill wind.
Thus we got up a bit late around 6am after routine completed. We were down for our breakfast at 7.30am and by 8am we hit the trek.
It was very very cold in the morning we put on heavy cold weather clothing and started our trek.
It was an easy hike with good weather and trek which was up and down of rocky roads with beautiful view of white and black mountain.
We had to share the trek at this level with yaks and human group which walk in a sync.
Namche(3,440m) to Khumjung Village(3,790m).
We will not have to walk too much but the journey will not be very easy at all.
Khumjung is a village in Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality of
Solukhumbu District. It is located in the Khumbu sub-region inside Sagarmatha National Park, a world heritage site.
The village lies at an elevation of 3,790 metres above sea level, near Mount Khumbila.
We reached our destiny by 1pm.Took our lunch and good rest.
At 3pm we did acclimatisation hike at nearby hill for an hour.
We going to have our lunch at 7.30am of Tupa noodles soup and hit the sack for the day.
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
4th Day Of EBC circuit
Today we got up early as we need to trek more than 3000m.
It was really very cold till bone pricking.
We covered few layers of clothing to sustain the cold n walk.
At around 2 hrs of our walk it became very hot as sun was out n near to us.We had to remove the cold clothing.
However after another 3hrs it started snowing so heavy that we had to adorn back the heavy snow clothing.
It was the longest walk of our trek as it took 11 hours till the whole mountainous region turn white and chilling cold
By the time we reach our guest house it almost 6 30pm and had our dinner at 7.30pm.By 8.30pm hit the sack out of tiredness.
The interesting part of this day is we came across 3 x been to the peak Mt.Everest as a Sherpa.Who owns the happy guesthouse which we stayed the night before. While chatting with him, I came to know 30% to 40% of Sherpas there have summited in their life time as a guide or assistant guide. It is not a big thing there in Nepal.
However in our country and other countries around is great achievement.
Beside that we got a close up picture of mountain goat in snow which is a rare change. We were gifted .
The photos, I have taken I am uploading along with my write up.
Khumjung Village(3,790m) to Pangboche(3,985m)
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
5th Day Of EBC circuit
Today due to exhaustion and trekking in rapid changing weather of yesterday
We got up slightly late and start our trekking around 8am after our breakfast.
It was continuously snowing from yesterday. So we had to start our trekking on thick multilayered clothing with positive mind.As today we will cross 4000m that to in white mountain range with slippery and missing trek.
We took around 5 hours to cover 6km one step at a time in slow pace to adapt to the thin air which going be 60% oxygen only available.
At 4pm ,we went for acclimatisation hike in reparation of tomorrow's trekking.
Pangboche(3,985m) to Dingboche(4,410 m)
Today’s trek takes us deeper into the high Himalayas, bringing you above 4,000m for the first time on this journey. The trail winds through alpine forests, picturesque Sherpa villages, and open pastures, with the towering peaks of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and Everest dominating the landscape. As we ascend, the scenery transforms from lush green forests
to a rugged, glacial landscape, a sign that you’re approaching the higher altitudes of the Everest region. Dingboche is a delightful and essential village on the Everest Base Camp trek, situated at an impressive 4,410 meters in Nepal’s Khumbu region.
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
6th Day Of EBC circuit
Today we start our hike around 9am as we need to walk at slower pace to adapt to thin air at over 4000m though the distance is short and the elevation we going to achieve is less than 200m.
We were lucky the snowing stopped and the sun appeared with good sunshine and hot atmosphere made our hike better though the pathway was slippery and muddy due to the melting of the snow.
The mountainous terrain was so beautiful with bright sun with sunrays in circle of rainbow( can see in the picture)
The beauty of creation of Almighty can be appreciated in this area with beautiful black and white mountainous range all around.
Dingboche(4,410m) to Duglha(4,620m).
Moral Lesson Learn Today
1. For 500m to 2000m hill- one need strength and stamina
2. For 2000m to 3000m hill- one need strength, stamina and endurance
3. For 3000m to 4000m peak- one need beside above determination and will power
4. For 5000m above one need strong mind, determination and willpower.
Spiritual Lesson Learned
Infinite is the best artist.Himalayas mountainous range is the art work of Almighty.
The Truth does the excellent hues of colours of the mountain terrain from green with dense forest to rocky/sandy brown terrain to black mountain to snowy white mountain secondary to snow within hours.
Is the Existence is the best artist of the world and universe?
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
7th Day Of EBC circuit
Today we need to cover only 3km and we reaching 4920m that means the available O2 in atmosphere is 50% only.
As such talking, eating and changing cloth is really an effort and require lots of energy.
What more walking at this altitude is really tiring and me walk at snail space and that s what the general advise also by the guide in order to acclimatise to the higher altitude we reaching almost 5000m.
The weather was really kind towards us as it was very hot sunshine with sun very near to us.As we all have the knowledge the sun we appear near the higher the altitude.I experience it myself here,I can't imagine how close and hot it will be at the peak of Mt Everest!
We reached our destiny at 4 and 1/2 hrs.
Duglha(4,620m) to Lobuche(4,940m).On the way between this we came across many monuments build for those who died attempting or after attempting at the peak.
Moral Lesson Learned
1.Never judge anyone,as other may judge you.
2.Life is tough ,only the toughest can reach one's goal.
Spiritual Lesson Learned
Never attempt the EBC to show the world of your achievement.
Do it as though it is your pilgrimage bcos ur comfort is taken from u.
It is you and nature( the local believes the God Iives there if comes to Earth)
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
8th Day Of EBC circuit
Though we need to cover 5km of trek and elevation different of 200m
It was the toughest journey of whole trekking
Due to thin air and availability 50% O2 in the atmosphere.
It was a real struggle at every step we take.
It is like running 1500m at a speed of 100m!
To add further to our burden of trekking the sun is near and the heat is penetrative with terrain is thickly snow covered the whole journey 8 hrs to complete the trek fully exhausted and short of air, hungry and cold.
In spite of it after our tupa for lunch
We attempted Kalapathar as ur acclimatisation hike which is 5500m.
Came back ro one of crowded and poorly maintained Himalayan Guest house but at 5100m one can't expect anything better.
After our dinner which we can't complete due to altitude and extreme coldness.
We came back to room and had a disturb sleep due to thin air n coldness.
I am writing this at 4am as I got up for short meditation in spite my dirtiness for unable to bath for most of trekking due icy water and toileting hygiene problem.
I would have vomited if I am at of my sting and dirtiness.
Moral Lesson Learned
1. To achieve what u dreamed, u need to give up many things in life.Goal is going that extramile.
Spiritual Lesson Learned
I have gone up mountain to seek the beloved.I couldn't find.
I have gone underwater seeking the beloved I couldn't find.
I have jumped from sky seeking the beloved.I couldn't find.
I realised the beloved is within me.
The beloved given me the opportunity to the beauty of it's creation which is magnificent, magnanimous and gigantic beyond imaginable.
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
9th Day Of EBC trek
It was supposed to be updown Everest Base Camp which suppose to be 6km.
But I was tired of past few days continuous waking in various werher change in a day n heavy snowing for past few days.
Beside thinning aiisgisr and altitude fatigue.
Ideally we should finish EBC the last phase of trek by 5hrs.But even one way I took 7 hrs due to fatigue and many human transport and yaks transport for Mt Everest peak preparation.
On the way after EBC, I was much slower and slowing down the rest of the team and might reach the Guest House late night.
So the decision for me to take a horse right down the mountainous terrain to my Guest House. It was 2 kms of scary ride though it was a new experience.
Then our guide decide to just do the EBC trek updown and not the circuit,as we planned earlier.
In this Himalayan range I have experience 4 wheels drive at last Trip to Gokyo Ri and old way of Hillary Edmund took for hike from low land to the Mt.Everest.
This time around I had a bike ride down the offroad pretraining hill at Kathmandu since I had hip pain after 10hrs of hike.
Well the EBC photo point view was exhilarating as with the tiredness and altitude issues disappeared the moment we reach there and share the joyous occasion with others.
It gives a 360 degree of white mountains which are 7000m and 8000m all around.
One need to be there to experience it.
Coming to horse ride in was memorable experience and gave some rest from trekking and I notice if I walked at that slow pace we reach past midnight and that is very dangerous in snow terrain.
Moral Lesson Learned
Never give up ,even how difficult it is ; once you set the goal.
U may fall, it teaches you to be a better person in future.
As the outside world is different from the world our parents shown.
Spiritual Lesson Learned
When life is tough on u- Trust In God.
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
10th Day Of EBC trekking
We started our descend from Gorshep to Lobuchee after our breakfast at 8am
Lucky though heavy snow all around but sun was out and was shining strong and appear very near to us.
I had a terrible tummy upset and loose motion on this day after returning from EBC.Lucky it didn't trouble today's trek down.
The weather was good with sunshine but later part of the trek was chilling wind blowing the path and irritated our inner nose mucus which aggravated the cough and running nose
Beside that there was mid hailstorm as we nearing our Hotel New EBC after a 7 hours of walk and decrease of 300m.
Currently it is snowing outside as we inside the hotel.
The hike takes across many white mountains and frequent yaks, horse and human transporters of the mountainous region. As there is no vehicles at this rough and high terrain.
Moral Lesson Learned
Never expect from nature, just take what is given and work on it.
Spiritual Lesson Learned
If life is tough on u,pray while working on it.
Infinite is compassionate n loving.IT may test you but IT will pass you finally bcos you work on it.
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
11th Day Of EBC
Today we descend from Lobuchee to Pangboche
It is around 12km walk with strong icy cold wind against us due to tunnel effect at a valley we walking across to Perichee village.Beside that the hot sunshine and later it was snowing heavily throughout our afternoon journey.
I was very exhausted walking at this unpredictable weather and the terrain is elevation and descend of 50m to 100m.
The distance was torturing since we can see the village but we we walk n walk for more than 4 hours to reach the village for lunch.
I am extremely slow and getting tired of waking and exhaustion set in and cough increasing due to cold wind n snowing.
So during lunch at 2pm.I decided to take horse ride in order to not slow down my niece who is the other hiking partner who is faster but need to slow down for me.
Beside we completed 7 km upto 3pm and another 5km to go to Pangboche for our night sleep which this pathway has only sandy rocky with small jungle shrubs no village in between and heavy snow with chilling wind at 50km per hour.
As such it will past midnight and no help we can at this path. The guide and my niece generally can finish by less than 3hrs.
So my horse ride for that 5hrs in snowy cold weather in uneven terrain with steep ravine give me a give me a fear.
But my decision to take that ride was right. If not definitely I will delay them.
It was one and half hour ride to the Namesta Rest House.
I went inside and having my tea at local cowdung heater.
They two also reached after around 2hrs.
The owner is very nice lady prepared our fried rice and omelette for dinner by 6.30m
So that we can rest early for tomorrow's vigorous hiking.
Moral Lesson Learned
Intermediate high altitude need good stamina and strength to push when needed.
Example
If one walks at 0.5 to 2 km per hour will find difficult to attempt this mountain Beside coming can move faster and that pace it is to slow to cover a long distance n will be tiring too.
If one walks at 2 to 4km per hour is good n if need arises able to increase that speed especially coming down better.
If one walks at 4 to 7km per hour. There is a risk of AMS, provided the one able to reduce the speed up n adjust to advantage when coming down.
Spiritual Lesson Learned
Never take things for granted and be humble and put the necessary efforts
So that Truth can guide and protect in ones under taking.
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
12th Day Of EBC
As it started snowing from yesterday evening through the night.
When we got up in the morning the whole mountainous region and thw village Pangboche was covered by thick snow.
The whole view my eyes can see is pure white. It is nice to see but to walk out for 4 hours is mind freaking and demoralising. But what choice we left with!
So we started our trekking on white snowy slippery pathway slow and continously to over next destination which is Tengboche which have few famous monestries.
On the trek we saw few helicopters flying very low near the mountain due to poor visibility( the pilot taking high risk I suppose)
Beside that we came across wild goat at a distance passing by.
Around 12 noon we had this time around at Nepali local eateries for local community for a change.
The fod taste so good compared to many days of our trek eating.
We reached quite early at Tengboche by walking down a slippery path while it was snowing.
We checked in at Himalayan Hotel for the day.
After an hour of rest and tea with popcorn.
We visited one of the monestry near by in cold ,misty surrounding with poor visibility.
It is a very old monestry.
We came to our hotel as it is very cold outside and aggravates cold induce cough.
We going to have early dinner at 6.30pm followed by our of the dsy which we take a kitkat drink and Lockers wafer.
Then planning to hit the sack early.
So that we are well rested for next day trekking to Namchee highest biggest town at 3500m.
Moral Lesson Learned
Life is tough, take it as a challenge.
Take the 1st step and rest of the steps will guide to your destiny
Spiritual Lesson Learned
I came to know from Malaysiakini
One side of world is very hot.
Another part of the world is very cold.
Extreme in either way is no good
But We accept whatever the Beloved gives
As Truth knows the best.
Human knows nothing but thinks knows everything.
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
13th Day Of EBC Trek
Today we started our descend at 7 am as we had to trek for 12 kms distance from Tengboche(3800m) to Namchee(3500m).
It was slow gradient of up and down terrain with more of rocky and sandy path
Though previously days were heavy snow.
We were lucky today it is bright sun with less thinning air as we descend.
This privilege is only tlll noon. Then the weather changed frequently between chilling wind to cloudy.
However me being a slow pace hike it took me to complete at 6pm, almost 11hours.The intermediate pace hikers could finish at around 6 to 7 hrs.
As such I got caught evening mist which was initially light but later became thick and very cold.
This aggravated cold induce cough for 20 minutes before reaching the hotel.
It took a few hours to settle after getting into warm diining room and after taking medication and steam inhalation.
It was a challenging trekking day but it is hikers part parcel which they will face in hiking; as weather and environment is very unpredictable.
We take what we get and work on it to better in future.
By the way we came across a beautiful nation bird of Nepal(lophopxorus) which is not easy watch at later part of our hike
At start of hike we saw a wild goat.
Moral Lesson Learned
When going up slow pace prevents AMS as oe get better adjustment with altitude and weather.
However going down is advantage if one has faster pace.As one can cover longer distances and maybe able to escape from extreme weather change in the evening and better rest for next day.
Spiritual Lesson Learned
Trust In God But Don't test God.
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
14th Day Of EBC Trek
Even today was around 8hrs of trekking down from Namchee to Pakdin around 500m down and around 8km distance of more rocky sandy pathway in between with staircases.
We have to descend and ascend around 50m to 100m in this trekking of the day.
Interesting I noted the weather is much warm with mild chilling air and atmosphere O2 is more 80%.
So it is nice to walk down.
As usual we have to hold on with our walk when donkeys as transporters of this lower part comes or human transporters carrying heavy loads up or down.It is a kind of disturbance to continuity of hike.
But in away it give time for a break.
The other thing I observed there are more than 30% think it is an easy walk like in a park and distance to hike is average around 6 to 8km a day.So they think it is easy forgetting the gradient up and thin air as they go up.I opine they don't do proper research before the trip and the local company too doesn't advise them properly.
As such many try to go up themselves without the guide, others start very late of the journey and try to ascend to fast and longer distance due to shortage of the time for the trekking.
As such higher chances of developing AMS of mild to severe one, extreme exhaustion or hypothermia.
When those above require the rescue mission to bring them down.It can be very expensive and life endangering.
The group of EBC trekkers without a guide and solo if they injure or fall down the ravine - no ones of the disappearance or get help.
I am not sure many are aware or not but they are risking their life to show- I has done as others done it and get a thumbs up in social media.
What I had to undergo in my trekking today is walking through the suspension bridge named after Hillary which is really tiring and need 5 minutes of rest before we start our hike. Then we need to pass through a major army check point to clear from one province to another in the mountainous area.
We saw a monkey enjoying on someone's small plantation.
Finally to tired of eating past 12 over days dhal bhat and tupa, for a change we took Nepali food which taste much better.
By the time we reach our Kalapathar Hotel, it was 6pm.
We sat near the local fire heater while waiting for dinner at 6 30pm.After having the kitkat drink and the Lockers wafer.
By 7 30am hit the sac for next days last leg of trekking from Pakdin to Lukla.
Moral Lesson Learned
Walking slow is an art, only few can do it.
As most are tuned to go fast.
For EBC attempt, one must go slow to acclimatise oneself. As most of us from 0 level altitude and hot weather countries.
However during descend reasonable fast pace will be advantageous.
Spiritual Lesson Learned
What is our purpose in this living?
What I want to do with my life?
When do I exit from this living?
We are mortal though we assume we are immortal.
As everyone's living is timed.
🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊
15th Day Of EBC Trek
Today we completed our last leg of trekking from Pakdin to Lukla where we started 15days back our long journey over 126km.
We got up at 5am to do the packing and minimal toilet routine.
By 6.30am we were ready for our breakfast
Immediately after that we started our 9km hike since Lukla is in higher altitude than Pakdin.
It was a slow gradient of ascending and descending of 50 to 100m on rocky pathway
Inbetween we are given force rest by transporting donkeys in big groups.
As a saying in the EBC give the working animals n humans 1st pass.
The weather was kind to us since it was sunny and the air is less thinner as we are almost reaching 2500m.
So trekking was much easier and faster. As we come across new hikers enthusiastically starting their hikes.
As we cleared the Lukla checkpost at around 3pm.
We couldn't believe that we completed a long tedious trekking for more than 15 days with minimal out side world communication, accepting minimum hygiene, blend diet which we force ourselves to eat, wearing the same clothes for days,no bath, families are far and inability to contact them and day in day out walking in heavy snow for days, burn heat and ice cold strong wind.
What we gained by this strainous and tough long journey?
To be humble, to be simple and take living as it comes.
Most importantly the Infinite blessing of good birth to us- as comfort is easily achievable by us compared to the people living in this remote areas.
Finally my mission to assist my niece to achieve her dream of EBC completed and my update of my EBC trek will end here.
Tq all my well wishers for walking with me in this journey of EBC by reading my daily updates.😅
