Training A Surgeon By Aditaya Kumar,Neurosurgeon

Training surgeons is stressful and operating is a privilege. 7 pieces of advice to get the most from your trainers. 1/ Build a Reputation for Reliability Reliability will get you far. If your trainer knows they can count on you to get work done, it frees their bandwidth to focus on your training. Being reliable is free and doesn't require any talent or skill. 2/ Swallow a Toad for Your Boss We all have things we have to do, but don't like to do. Watch your boss, see what they struggle with and learn to do it yourself. Take something off their plate and you will be rewarded in turn. 3/ Figure It Out At the start of your training everything is new. What's simple for others is complex for you. Becoming someone who is able to figure out any problem is a gold. Ask key questions, speak to your peers, do the work. This + reliability = people want to train you. 4/ Do the Basics to a High Standard Dressing well, being on time, standing straight, speaking clearly and doing what you ...

You come with nothing and don't take anything back on return

When is your official retirement date? I'm certain they have some grand plans for your retirement? I told them no bon voyage party.  As I came in as nobody, to serve. I leave as nobody. As I was rewarded and benefited from my service to mankind within my knowledge and abilities .πŸ™‡πŸΌ‍♂️ 🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊 It’s truly admirable how u view your journey of service and retirement…your perspective is truly commendable. While u declined a bon voyage party, it’s evident that your contributions have left a positive impact and your legacy is one of selfless dedication. However, it’s also about your legacy and the people who have worked with u, wanting to show their appreciation for the great leader they had.  The outsiders, of course, can validate this through the physical functions they observe, relating them to the team spirit developed over the years. Perhaps this moment will become a cherished memory for everyone who has u imprinted in their hearts forever, a truly gre...

Dilemma Of Overworked Junior Doctors

I opine in every field and work system there will be some form of bullying. It is not only in Medical Fraternity! Bullying should be defined clearly in medical field. As it can be pressure of work itself, can be considered a form of bullying by some of them. Why said so? Because as a doctor, we cannot stop our work at 5pm and walk off like any other type of work. If a new patient admitted or collapsed the involved doctor has to be there to do the necessary treatment for that moment, though the other working colleagues around the vicinity.Beside, even the dr who is in attendance won't leave the patient, as his/her conscience will trouble them. It is a common occurrences in medical practice. Do you considered it bullying or pressure of work? Second scenario, the younger doctor has overlooked a treatment which is very important to the patients. If this dr being reprimanded or taught the standard of care. Is it considered bullying? In medical practice the personnels involved in dealin...

A Student's Perception Of The Teacher

Never be gone in my memory,  I was impressed and inspired by a senior consultant surgeon, when he did the ward visit,  Standing close side by side to the ill and sick old man, Gave the warmest smile in a hustle morning, Meanwhile staff nurses and medical officers was rushing up and down finding folders reading out the case reports, He pat on the old man shoulders, Good morning mister ong, he greeted Calling up a person name when you talk is a very important, Because it shows how attentive you are,  How are you today? He asked while MO and HO were busy flipping the folders. The old man mr ong smile and reply i am good doctor, Despite the pain the patient had from the laparotomy stitches,  It lapsed when a doctor shows empathy and kindness. Before i became his disciple, I was told that this legendary senior doctor was a grouchy and crabby old man, In contrast, it didn’t turn down my drive to learn from him, I learnt and I applied what i assimilated from his teach...

How To Handle Current Knowledgeable Patient And Relatives

My take at current times in practice of surgery. U must be patient centred rather than doctor centred in ur treatment.  As the knowledge n skill u gained for many years  It is available in a click of mobile data by ordinary people. As such, u should respect the info the patient has. It is your duty to convince the patient of ur take in the disease n Mx. At the same time, give sincere hearing to their info or ideas. If they want 2nd opinion, let them have that if they ask to recommend - do recommend a doctor who u think will assist them. But at times, there might be 2 ways to approach a problem.  If u find ur approach is better, go according to it. If they want the second way - u can refer to the dr who may do that. Otherwise you bend ur principles if you find it is feasible by the second approach. Then do as the patient request if the patient n relatives agrees to it. Finally, patients' satisfaction is a doctors priorities πŸ™‡πŸΌ‍♂️

Middle East Dilemma

The current situation of Palestinian Israel never will get solved due to internal n external politicians' self-interest.  As I was there under humanitarian mission in last war. I realised both sides the citizens want peace n harmony.  But leaders of internal n external won't allow that in the name of religion ,nationalities n race. As we instinctively natured to stick to labels in our lifetime and fight over a God which is everyones. Who doesn't claim anyone - other than the invisible energy radiates LOVE. However, humans using IT' s name create hatred n destroy each other n the Mother EarthπŸ™‡πŸΌ‍♂️πŸ™πŸΎ
